Mix of newbies and oldies, but all goodies.

Is iad seo a leannas na físeanna ceoil Éireannach is fearr liom!
Bláthnaid gives her favourite Irish music videos of all time. A mixture of newbies and oldies, but all goodies.

Enemies – Indian Summer (2012)
Is banna ceol ó Chill Mhaintáin iad seo a leannas, ní amháin a bhfuil a cuid ceoil go hiantach ach is breá liom a fís ceol don ámhrán ‘Indian Summer’.

This is a band from County Wicklow, and not only is their music great but I love the music video for their song ‘Indian Summer’.

Mar is eol díobh, úsáideann na hIndiaigh an púdar seo i rith an Fhéile Holi, féile mór a dhéanann na hIndiaigh céiliúradh ar dathanna, cathainn siad an púdar seo ar a chéile i rith a féile, an-craic! Baineann siad úsáid as an phúdair seo i rith ócáidí traidisiúnta, cosúil le bainise, chun patrúin álainn a chuir ar an talamh! Ar aon nós, is ó seo a tháinig téama an fís, agus bhfeicinn sé go raibh craic den scoth acu fad is a bhí siad ag taifead!

In India during the during their Holy Festival celebrating colour, people throw this powder at each other, great craic! They also use this powder during other traditional occasions, such as weddings where they use it to create beautiful patterns on the ground! Anyways, this is the inspiration behind the video and it looks like they had a ridiculous amount of fun making it too!

U2 – The Sweetest Thing (1998)
Aw is BREÁ liom an fís seo! Bono bocht ag dhéanamh a dhícheall chun a leithscéal a ghabháil óna bhean chéile toisc go rinne sé dearmaid ar a breith lá! Fuair sé cabhair ó a lán lán daoine chun an fís seo a dhéanamh i lár Baile Átha Cliath, cosúil le Boyzone, Riverdance, Chippendales, banna mairseáil, eilifint, croí mór sa spéir agus bláthanna. Tá súil agam go déanfaigh mo buachaill dearmaid é mo breith lá anois!

Aw I LOVE this video! Poor Bono doing his best to apologise to his wife for forgetting her birthday! He got a lot of help to make this video in Dublin city, from the likes of Boyzone, Riverdance, Chippendales, marching band elephant, hearts in the sky and of course some flowers! I hope my boyfriend forgets my next birthday!

Father Ted – My Lovely Horse
Ok..ní fís coel ceart é an ceann seo, ach, is aoibhinn liom é. Tá na focail ar fad curtha de ghlanmheabhair ag muintir na hÉireann, táim cínte, agus is ceann dos na hamhráin / fís is greannmhar a bhfaca mé riamh. Tá an tAthair Ted agus an tAthair Dougal Maguire ag canadh faoin a chapaill álainn ag rith timpeall na páirce, lena gruaig ag bogadh leis an gaoth, mar traein i rith na oíche! An bhuil aon rud eile ag teastáil uait?!

Ok …this isn’t a proper music video but I love it anyway. All Irish people must know these words by heart, it’s one of the funniest songs/video’s I have ever seen. Father Ted and Father Dougal Maguire are singing about their lovely horse, running around a field, with its hair blowing in the wind, like a train in the night . . . what more could you want?!

The Pogues (feat. Kirsty McColl) – Fairytale of New York
Nollag Nollag Nollag!! Is é Fairytale of New York Nollag domsa! Bíonn sé le cloisteáil gach áit i rith am Nollag. Pé háit ina bhfuil tú timpeall an domhan, nuair a cloiseann tú an amhráin seo, is abhaile a bhíonn tú (más Éireannach thú ar aon nós). Tá fís an amhráin seo cosúil le gearrscannáin a léiríonn, ag cur in iúl an grá is na deacaireachtaí idir an bean agus an fear seo. Is breá liom é toisc go bhfuil sé cosúil le sean-scannáin, dubh agus bán, Hollywood é. Táim cínte go n-aontíonn an cuid is mó díobh liom, go bhfuil sé ceann dos na víseanna ceoil Éireannach (agus amhráin) is fearr riamh.

Christmas Christmas Christmas!! That is what Fairytale of New York is to me! You can’t escape it at Christmas time. No matter where you are in the world, when you hear this song, it feels like home (if you’re Irish of course). The video is a short movie portraying a couple’s love and the difficulties. I love it because it’s like an old black and white Hollywood movie. I’m sure most of you will agree with me on this one on being one of the best Irish music video’s (and songs) of all time.

Agus an ceann deireannach..
and the last one..

Heathers – Forget Me Knots
Tá is agam go raibh ‘Heathers’ i mo blog an seachtain seo caite, ach is cuma! Táin fís seo dochreidte Bhíonn siad ag déiliáil leis an fadhb mór, a bhfuil ag níos mó daoine Éireannach anois ná mar a bhí riamh roimhe, an galar dubhach. Cuireann an fís na mothúcháin seo in iúl sa slí ceart agus go caithfigh tú a bheith dóchasach, mar nach mothfaigh tú mar sin go deo. Go bhfuil se ceart go leor a bheith brónach ó am go h-am. Tá sé tábhachtach na fadhbanna seo a léiriú go háirithe sa meán seo!
Fágfaigh mé libh an ceann seo.

I know ‘Heathers’ were in my blog last week, but I don’t care, this video in UNREAL! The song deals with depression which is a huge problem in Ireland. They remind people that there is hope and that it’s okay to feel sad sometimes. It’s important to portray these issues especially in this medium. I leave you with this one.
