Bhí mé ar muin na muice, mar a deirtear, nuair a cuireadh ceist orm blog beag a scríobh ar na cúig bhannaí ceoil Éireannach ab fhearr liom faoi láthair, tosc go bhfuilimid dubh le bannaí ceoil den scoth ar an oileán ardtallainne seo!

I was delighted when asked to write a blog about my five favourite Irish bands at the minute because we are exploding with brilliant bands of a very high standard on this Island!

Is iad seo a leanas, an cúig bhanna ceoil Éireannach is fhearr liom, sna míonna beaga anuas!

These are my top five favourite Irish bands in the last few months!

D’éirigh go hiontach leis an gceathrair ‘The Cast of Cheers’, banna ceoil ó Bhaile Átha Cliath, tar éis dóibh a gceirnín ‘Family’ a chuir ar fáil sna siopaí agus ar an idirlíon i rith an tsamhraidh seo caite! Is meascán de ‘Foals’ agus ‘Everything Everything’ iad, i mo thuairm, le cóirlínte spreagúla agus saothar bunúil! Seo an t-amhrán is fearr liomsa ón gceirnín!

This Dublin based quartet have been doing really well both in record sales and online since they released their new album ‘Family’ in the summer of 2012. They are a mixture of ‘Foals’ and ‘Everything Everything’ with their inspiring chorus lines and original compositions. This is my favourite song from the album:

‘Trucks at Night’

Tá ‘Little Green Car’s’ ar fud na haite faoi láthair! Roghnaíodar, comh maith le cúig bhanna ceoil Éireannach eile; Kodaline,Girls Names, Adrian Crowley,Villagers agus Mmoths, chun seinm ag an Féile Sárthaispeántais ‘Eurosonic’ (showcase festival) a bhí ar siúl i mí Éanair san Ollainn!

D’éirigh go sár mhaith leo ag an gceolchoirm agus de réir dealramh, spreagadar suim an lucht éisteachta! Is breá liomsa iad mar gheall ar na harmóiní álainne, bíonn gach ball den grúpa ag canadh le chéile i tuin nádúrtha! Is é ‘John Wayne’ an t-amhrán a chaith solas agus cáil orthu!

‘Little Green Cars’ are everywhere at the moment! They were picked, as well as five other Irish bands; Kodaline, Girls Names, Adrian Crowley, Villagers and Mmoths to play at the showcase festival ‘Eurosonic’ that took place in January, in Holland. They were well received and apparently caught the attention of the crowds. I love them because of their beautiful harmonies, everyone in the group sings together very naturally! ‘John Wayne’ is the song that really brought them to everyone’s attention.

‘Heathers’
Bhí an cúpla álainn seo, ó Bhaile Átha Cliath, trasna sna Stáit Aontaithe ag chur a gcuid ceoil chun cinn áit inar shein siad ós comhair na réalta ag an ‘Oscar Wilde Party’ an féile roimh na ‘Oscars’. Tá a amhrán ‘Forget me Knots’ ainmnithe le haghaidh an ‘Choice Music Song of the Year Award’ agus comh maith le sin, tá an beirt acu an- deas ar fad! Músclaíonn ceol na gcailíní, mothúcháin ionnat, lena glóir dochreidte! Ón gceirnín nua ‘Kingdom’ , seo é ‘Forget Me Knots’

These lovely twins, from Dublin were over in the United states promoting their music and performing at the ‘Oscar Wilde Party’ the pre-Oscars party. Their song ‘Forget Me Knots’ is nominated for the ‘Choice Music Song of the Year Award’ and as well as that, they are both really sound! The girls’ music sets off the emotions of the songs within you with their unbelievable voices!

From their new album ‘Kingdom’, this is ‘ Forget Me Knots’.

‘Mmoths’
Níl an fear Éireannach, taobh thiar den banna ceoil seo ach ocht mbliain déag d’aois. Is meascán de leictreo, synth agus ceol ambiance atá ann. Tá sé foirfe má tá tú ag iarraidh do scíth a ligint! Tá Mmoths tar éis conradh a dhéanamh le SQE, lipéad ceoil lonnaithe in L.A. agus beidh ceirnín nua le fáil, ‘Diaries’ an mí seo! Comh maith le sin fógraíodh an tseachtain seo caite go mbeidh siad ag seinm ag an féile nua Éireannach ‘Longitude’ atá ar súil 19ú-21ú lá de mí Iúl i Marley Park i mBaile Átha Cliath. Is cínte go mbeidh mé ag fraisteal ar an ceann sin!

The man behind the band is only 18 years old and the music is a mixture of electro, synth and ambiance. It’s perfect to chill out to. Mmoths has signed a record deal with an LA based record label SQE and his new EP ‘Diaries’ is out this month! As well as that they were have just been announced to performing at the new Irish festival ‘Longitude’, in Dublin’s Marley Park on 19th-21st of July. I’ll definately be at that one!

Seo é / this is ‘Summer (Feat. Superhumanoids)’

‘Le Galaxie’
Más féidir libh, caithfaidh sibh ‘Le Galaxie’ a fheiscint beo ar an stáidse mar go bhfuil siad mar cheann dos na bannaí ceoil is fuinneamhúil agus is beomhar in Éirinn. Fite fuaite sa cheol ná shamplaí do chomhráití ó scannáin leis an ceol leictreo. Bíonn ort léimt suas agus damhsa fad is a bhíonn tú ag éisteacht leo. Tá siad ag déanamh camchuairt bheag timpeall na tíre faoi láthair..agus is é seo an fís nua don amhrán ‘The Nightcaller (feat. Laura Smyth)’

If you can, you have to see ‘Le Galaxie’ live on stage because they are one of the most energetic and lively bands in Ireland. Mixed in with their music are samples of dialogue from movies. You have to just jump up and dance when listening to them. They are doing a small tour around Ireland at the moment, and here’s the new video for their song ‘The Nightcaller (feat. Laura Smyth)’

Tá súil agam gur thaitheann an ceol libh! Labhair liom ar Twitter @BlathnaidT
