Two Tube entertainment reporter Mike Sheridan marvels at our celebrity culture.

‘Gone’ actress Amanda Seyfried has announced that she’s proud of her fellow actresses for “not being divas”. Eeeeer, what? What planet is this young lady living on, and her publicist needs to step in and end an interview every time she says something loopy.

“The funny thing is, the girls that I’m always up against for roles are pretty nice and cool, like Emma Watson. She’s awesome,” Seyfried said in an interview with Glamour magazine.  “She’s really funny and smart. And Carey Mulligan. It’s flattering to be up against her because she’s really good, and she’s cool too… I think the era of the diva actress is coming to an end.”

No it’s not Amanda, people who are given things for free and have people around them do ABSOLUTELY everything for them have a tendency to be a little bit demanding when they don’t get what they want. I see first-hand how much is done for not just actresses, but actors too, so it’s not just a gender thing. But publicists are paid by the celebrity elite to be mean to the press so they don’t have to be.

Now, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some corners of the press that deserve it. Both Brad Pitt and George Clooney now don’t do regular press junkets. Why? Because no one asks about the film that they’re there to promote and instead concentrates on their private lives, which, to me, should be kept private.

There’s an intrinsic interest in these people’s lives because they are in the spotlight so much, and regular gossip magazine readers naturally wonder what the A-list are like when they’re not strolling up another red carpet, looking like tanned Adonis’s.

Again, there are celebrities out there who are, quite frankly, a little unhinged. And it’s those ones that need the press. Seyfried is at a good place in her career. She’s a little kooky for sure, but she’s also a talented actress with a mush that the camera just loves.

Lindsay Lohan for instance, isn’t. She’s a constant car crash waiting to happen, and now the public have become accustomed to hearing of her public woes. At the even lower end of that spectrum comes Peter Andre, Katie Price, Kerry Katona etc. People with talent that is limited at best and that make money from their private lives. Who strikes that balance? Does anyone?

In my experience the bigger the star the nicer they are. A cliché, but it’s true. But just because some movie stars have everything done for them and still behave like actual human beings to us mere mortals, doesn’t mean that needs to be pointed out.
